Our Mission

Our mission is to inspire all students to reach their full potential by providing individualized instruction in order to address student needs, provide a unique learning environment through the use of museum exhibits, facilities, and resources, create a positive and nurturing learning environment where students feel comfortable to explore their surroundings, ask questions, and discover, and educate “the whole” child through real-world experiences.

Our Vision

We will create an optimum learning environment to develop an internationally-minded community of learners, where all students are provided with meaningful experiences and are given the opportunity to explore, discover, and become proactive, responsible global thinkers.

Extended Learning in Science, Technology, Engineering, and Math

Our approach to STEM education goes beyond the classroom. We offer a range of activities and resources to help students develop their skills and interests in science, technology, engineering, and math. We are committed to providing opportunities for students to learn and grow.

About our Program

Miami Children’s Museum Charter School (MCMCS) presents a distinctive educational experience located on Watson Island in South Florida. Since its establishment, the school has become an essential component of the community, serving a diverse student body of 310 pupils ranging from Kindergarten through fifth grade. What sets MCMCS apart is its singular location within a children's museum, making it one of the few schools nationwide to offer such an immersive learning experience. This unique setting allows teachers to incorporate museum exhibits into weekly lessons, providing students with an unparalleled, hands-on learning environment. It extends the classroom walls to engage young minds in exploring what they have learned in a tangible, interactive manner. This approach not only bolsters their understanding but also ensures regular exposure to STEM (Science, Technology, Engineering, and Mathematics) disciplines, a cornerstone of the school's curriculum.

Since its inception in 2004, MCMCS has been committed to fostering an education that emphasizes hands-on learning, critical thinking, and creativity. Utilizing the engineering design process, educators collaboratively develop standard-based STEM lessons, culminating in annual Exhibit Nights. These events transform classrooms into exhibition spaces showcasing student projects, from prototypes to presentations, allowing the community to engage with and celebrate the students' achievements.

A hallmark of MCMCS is its dedication to inclusivity and diversity, not just in its student body but also in its curriculum. The school proudly celebrates the varied cultural backgrounds of its students through initiatives like Multicultural Day. This event sees classrooms adopt a country, often reflecting the heritage of its students creating a rich, immersive learning experience.

Furthermore, the school is proactive in providing STEM engagement opportunities beyond the classroom. Extracurricular activities such as Snapology STEM labs and our School Garden, as well as PENDA Science supplement students' learning, offering expanded avenues for exploration and discovery. To ensure the STEM program continues to grow and align with best practices, MCMCS boasts a STEM Committee made up of educators across grades and disciplines. This group meets regularly to discuss and implement the STEM curriculum, fostering a collaborative environment that encourages innovative teaching methodologies.

Professional development is a priority at MCMCS, with teachers encouraged to participate in workshops and training sessions that keep them at the forefront of STEM education. This commitment to teacher growth is complemented by a strong partnership with parents, students, and the wider community, ensuring a collective effort in advancing the school's STEM initiatives.

Achievement and growth at MCMCS are underpinned by a data-driven culture. Before the academic year commences, educators analyze previous years' data to tailor instruction to best meet students' needs. This approach facilitates targeted interventions and support, ensuring that all students have the resources they need to succeed academically.

The school's focus on STEM is evident across all subjects, integrating technology and engineering into daily lessons to foster a learning environment that promotes problem-solving and critical thinking from an early age. This interdisciplinary strategy prepares students to excel not only in middle school but in their future academic and professional endeavors.

MCMCS's commitment to quality education and community engagement has not gone unnoticed. The National Association of Museum Schools has chosen our school to be part of the NAMS Road Trip this year and will be highlighting MCMCS and our unique learning environment and STEM program. Such recognition serves as a testament to the school's innovative approach to education and its impact on students' lives.

By fostering a collaborative, inquiry-based learning space, MCMCS is shaping the future leaders of our community. With a curriculum that emphasizes hands-on learning and real-world problem-solving, the school ensures that students are not just prepared for the next stage of their academic journey but are also equipped with the skills necessary to navigate beyond MCMCS. Through our unique location, commitment to STEM education, and inclusive approach, Miami Children’s Museum Charter School stands as a beacon of innovative education.
